This evening I was looking at the beautifull Dutch sunset and day dreaming about several things. And than a question popped-up.

When is an idea a good idea?

Ted.com has the slogan: Ideas worth spreading
It means that the idea’s they show are scaleable.

When you look at Vincent van Gogh you see that his idea seems to be a good idea 80 years later.

What do you think. When is an idea a good idea?

An idea gets value when someone sees value in it. Maybe it is just perception?

About the classification “good”
good is: duplicated in minds and words many times
or good is: when the result is used many times
or good is: when it gives new impulses for others to start acting
or good is: completely useless but brilliant

Fascinating about TED is that it generates a place of attention and presents thoughts that are quite easy to understand. The medium video is common accepted and is a good “mean of transport”.

In my view, if an idea create a major shift for humanity for a meaningful life, it can be considered as a goo idea.

Springboarding your wonderful example, Vincent’ss invisibly hidden ideas could be captured via observant eyes and they can directly create a tremendous shift in our emotions in his art work. Van Gogh museum was the only museum so far which brought instant tears to my eyes with a few glances when I entered to it in my visit to Amsterdam.

Liked (7) by William Buist on 13-Jul-10 12:49pm : MessageWhen nobody says “that makes sense” and lots of people look quizzical or say ‘that’s daft’, or ‘that’s stupid’, or ‘it’ll never work’ and yet for you you can see the logic, know it’s not daft nor stupid and want to make it work.

Why?

Because when an idea makes sense it’s already generally accepted, so is not a new idea. When it makes people change, when your context allows you to see what others can’t and your passion drives you on then you know you have a good idea.

Were Einstein’s ideas on relativity good ones? Did people say ‘That makes sense’ when he first presented them? I think the answers to those two questions are yes and no respectively.

What a powerful emotional description of your visit to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
Indeed, his idea of transforming the emotional state to the surface was a big one. Strong brush strokes combined with overwhelming coulor intensity/sensitivity.

So a good idea makes a major shift, wow, that idea is really big than!

Interesting description, tank you William it comes close to how I see it. But stil there is a point where few words are getting fluent:

1. a thought you have
2. putting the label “an idea” on it
3. someone recognizes it as an idea and uses the concept in his own context

“when your context allows you to see what others can’t” > that will be nr 2

I like you explanation about the “creazy” thoughts and the passion behind the thought.
There are many creazy thoughts of people but not recognized as a good idea.
In Holland you have a TV program about “het beste idee van Nederland”, trying to get your business idea realized.

“Because when an idea makes sense it’s already generally accepted, so is not a new idea.”
Not a new idea but a it was a good one once

I will try to summ-up what we have so far.
A good idea must be:
- a new thought, mostly a bit “creazy”
- an unique insight
- having the idea-label
- recognized as an idea
- usefull for others

Still in my mind: How come when an idea gets the tag “good” years later,(like the example of Einstein and van Gogh? How many idea’s are available now without having the label and not beëing used but just as brilliant?

Maybe a good idea is one that could fit into all or any of your definitions and Mehmet’s “major shift for humanity” , Sibren. Maybe this one could be a good example of a good idea. What do you think?

I thought about this question since yesterday night, when I have read the blog at first – and I came to almost the same answer as William gave it here.

A good idea is a good idea, when I’m assured about it, when it feels right for me, if this idea gives me the passion to resist all negative comments and so called “good advices”, when I’m burning for this idea.

And that has not to be an idea like Einstein has had or Da Vinci or Van Gogh, a good idea also can be a very small idea about making anything in everyday life better.

A good idea, I believe as an inventor for 25 years; is one which can move mountains (our fundemental thoughts) without yet being mass produced.
It touches everyones thoughts and provokes new thinking.
Kindly take a look at such an idea.

Everything made or grown requires clean water. These industries then pollute giving us wastewater. Each litre of Plastic bottled Water requires 3 litres of water to produce. There is a new more environmental solution. SVDs do not use plastic oil-based bottles or transportation costs. A Global sidewalk Clean Drinking Water Solar powered project.

Perhaps there’s another level to this which is … when is an idea “a good idea and the right idea”.
Good is one level, right is higher still.

Along the way I’ve experienced both opposition and inspired agreement to ideas, neither of which have led to the bearing of fruit, and right is still right even if good is debatable.

I agree Solveigh, that’s a fascinating aspect. As some people think about idea’s for “the univers”, an invention of the paperclip for example is a good idea also. literal a smal object, does not change the world really but after many years still very respected and used as an example of “a good idea”.

Nice observation, the right idea – and how to bear fruit.

I think you never know whether the right idea will be successfull. Look at many businessidea’s, on paper good and maybe the right idea – and still … no fruit. Sometimes the idea is not on the same wavelength with time, situation, etc.

If someone came – as first person in the world – with the idea of a paperclip today, I think nothing happens.

In a few days growing from never thought of it to I really like it. That’s whats happening here in the Netherlands.

Talking with Cornelis last few weeks ago, he got more and more attracted to a dutch hashtag #durftevragen (deartoask). It’s a place on twitter where you can ask anything and you will recieve an answer at random. Very polupar…

Meanwhile I heard about this well-buzzed annual seminar here in Holland, special for small business owners – connected the two thoughts. And nominated him for Dutch Social Media Star competition.
And now I hope something beautifull happens. I love creating flow and sharing is powerfull.

We have 104 votes now, but we need more to stay ahead. So please join the group or touch his heart …

In the netherlands a seminar called Social Media Event will be organized about how to get ciënts by using social media.

People who are seen as social media frontrunners in the Netherlands do not really get involved in worldwide networking like Ecademy. So the blogging here is not seen bij the “general online Dutchman”.

To build a bridge and improve involvement I nominated Cornelis de Maijer as the most succesfull user of social media to get cliënts. With his support and online he builds a great company Flaka cruising.
When Cornelis wins, we all win by more involvement

Thanks for the feedback. Do I understand it right when you say that the influence of ecademy is not als big as William claimes?

To me it is not an issue, the only thing I want to reach is promoting Cornelis here in the Netherlands and create fun for him. And Ecademy friends of Cornelis can make it happen (he has a lot of friends here).

So, it is all subjective, but it can make Cornelis smile and create respectfull connections here Netherlands too.

I notice that Cornelis does not react on this blog: it’s just a guess but I think it is typical Dutch thing: helping others but finding it difficult to recieve back the spontanious attention.

The deadline is next thursday at mid-day.
The biggest challenge is to get more votes than Anna-Maria Mantel-Giannattasio. She has 91 votes, but started the 29th of may already and is (the) a dutch twitter queen, promoting herself regulary.

So 45 votes in two days is very well done! And the voting-text is in dutch, amazing what a trust Ecademist do have in each other.

I think about sending all blackstars an email tomorrow. That will be 800 addresses at ones.
Or will it be remarked as spam?

Defining your core process.

Op het moment zit ik in de SocialMedia Crash Course met Thomas Power. Met een groep van 17 mensen hebben we een dag met 100% social media training.

Core Process is een systematiek om te vinden op welk gebied je kracht ligt en je anderen kunt “raken”.

In januari had ik al besloten dat flowcreation bij mij past en vandaag heb ik het verscherpt naar “create flow” of “Creeer flow”. Flow is een energiestroom die wat mij betreft altijd in de goede richting gaat. Het is onbewuste focus. En wat heb je eraan?

Als je verder wilt komen, doorontwikkelen en daarbij ook plezier wil hebben is belangrijk om in je kracht te zitten, dat te doen waar je het beste in bent.

Ook communicatie van jezelf en de organisatie kan in flow zijn of komen. Om dit sterk te verwoorden gebruik ik mijn affirmatie:

At the moment I’m in the Social Media Crash Course by Thomas Power. With a group of 17 people we have a day with 100% social media training.

Core Process is a system to find your strength and where you can touch followers.

In January, I had already decided that FlowCreation is suitable for me and today I tightened it to “create flow” or “Creëer flow”. Flow is as stream of energy that always points in the right direction. Unconscious focus (thanks NLP fellow BS Bas de Kruijf for finding those words for me). And what’s in for you?

If you want to get to the next level, developing yourselve and doing it with pleasure, you have to operate in your power, doing what you do the best.

Also, communication of yourself and the organization can be in flow. To express strong affirmation I use:

Yes I had found this myself in January 2010 when I took the Wealth Dynamics profile test from here in Ecademy.

I found , what I always knew I guess , that I was a Creator, and that when I was avoiding being In The Flow of Creation, I felt uncomfortable. I could do it, but I was uncomfortable and unproductive.

Since then I have embarked upon changing my life, way of working and of committing to stay as much as I can in the flow of creativity, and still earn money and be effective !

An interesting journey for sure.

that sounds like my Tai Chi teacher told me: “All is flowing. It comes, all is coming to you, if you let flow it…”

There is the thought in that the more you want anything, the more you push, the farer away it will be, but if you have the power to “see” the energy, to concentrate your energy in what you want (without pushing), the energy can flow and bring to you, what you need or wish… With other words, I’m open enough to see ALL opportunities to reach my goal…

Nieuwe vrienden maken, hoe doe je dat?

Deze week is er bij ons in huis regelmatig het onderwerp:

Vriendschappen en vrienden maken.

Mijn dochter zit op de middelbare school en is erg bezig met hoe je nieuwe vrienden maakt. Hoe ging dat ook alweer? Het was zo vanzelfsprekend op de lagere school maar op de middelbare school gaat het toch heel anders: groepsvorming, uiterlijk, meer ongeschreven dan geschreven regels, verwachtingen, enzovoort. Er zijn zoveel factoren die erbij komen kijken dat het opeens een hele klus lijkt te zijn.

Mijn vraag aan haar is: hoe ging het op de lagere school, wat gebeurde er waardoor je opeens tegen elkaar zegt dat je vrienden bent?

Een duidelijke paralel zie ik nu bij bedrijven die tussen twee werelden manoeuvreren: Zoals het altijd werkte werkt nu niet meer (zo goed) en de nieuwe manier kennen we nog niet goed genoeg. Toch willen we "iets nieuws proberen" want dat hoort bij de nieuwe manier van communiceren.

Vanochtend had ik een Twitterconversatie met Lianne Ebbinkhuijsen en het lijkt mij leuk om deze met jullie te delen.

Context: op het moment ben ik aan mijn "Masterplan" aan het opstellen (connecting my business and personal dots) en twitter is zeer geschikt om een idee snel bij peers te testen.
